The January recruitment period is always a time of intense speculation and potential major deals. A number of high-profile stars find themselves linked with transfers away from their current clubs. This article explores a selection of the major names that are poised to be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to reach the AFCON, which has left the forward available, reports suggest an important move is close. This 25-year-old possesses a deal featuring a substantial release clause active for a brief window at the start of the month. Latest reports point to the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to alternative options, leaving teams like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late bid.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has excel for Palace this season a previous move to Liverpool falling through. As his contract set to run out in the close season, this represents the London club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spain that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran Germany shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça under new manager Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and had surgery, a winter exit looks increasingly probable. Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

Juventus are desperate to secure the youngster to a lengthy contract but are in a race to retain one of Europe's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. The 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
